Most buildings are assembled by many hands, each hand excellent in its own lane. The electrician pulls power, the low voltage crew pulls data, the mechanical contractor commissions air, and the security vendor bolts on a reader at the last minute. Nobody owns the seams. Barbaron Construction LLC was put together to own the seams. We are a computer integrated systems design firm, which is a plain way of saying that we take the separate digital and electrical disciplines inside a facility and design them to fit each other before a single cable is landed.

Our work is quiet work. It lives in riser closets, above ceiling tiles, inside control panels and along the wireless coverage of a loading dock. When it is done properly, a facility manager walks into a mechanical room and sees a neat rack, labelled patch cords, a commissioning binder, and a phone number for the people who built it. When it is done badly, the same room becomes a nest of unlabeled wire and mystery boxes that outlives the staff who installed them. We built this practice around the first outcome. The mortar gets struck clean because the same crew that set the line also finishes the joint.

We work in five courses, each bonded to the one beneath. The first course is discovery, where we walk the building with you or your facility lead, photograph the existing conditions, and write down what the systems must accomplish. The second course is design, where the cabling, network, controls and access layers are drawn together and reviewed against budget and code. The third course is installation, planned around occupied hours so tenants keep working. The fourth course is commissioning, where every point, reader and access point is tested against the written sequence. The fifth course is handover, where documentation and training are delivered and the warranty clock starts clean.

Because we are a design house as well as an integrator, we can enter a project at any course. Owners bring us in early to write the design so the trades bid against a real specification. General contractors bring us in mid build to reconcile the low voltage package with what the field actually looks like. That walk usually pays for itself; a forty minute review of riser space, ceiling access and door hardware regularly saves a project several change orders before the first day of installation.

The usual reason an integration fails is not bad hardware. It is a handoff. One vendor installs the controller, another installs the network it depends on, a third installs the door hardware, and the owner discovers at commissioning that the pieces were never introduced to each other.
